How to Create a Healthy, Comfortable and Stress-Free Workplace

No matter how wonderful your job is, spending eight hours a day, doing the same things over and over again will make you mentally and physically tired, or worse stressed out.

And as you may know, stress can deaden your creativity and decrease your productivity. If your work performances are not satisfying, don’t be surprised if you get kicked out any time soon.

Of course you don’t want that to happen since your life pretty much depend on your job. To lift up your spirit and productivity, you can start by creating healthy, pleasant and stress-free workplace. Creating a healthy and cozy workplace is very important since it can boost your performance and productivity. By the way, workplace here can be in a form of a large office room or just a cubicle.

Here are the things you need to do if you want a healthy, comfortable, and stress-free workplace:

Paint your walls green

According to Sally Augustin, PhD, an environmental psychologist and principal at Design With Science, green has been linked with creative thought. And whatever you do for a living, whether you’re a teacher, designer, marketing or a novelist who work from home, you need a great amount of creativity to take your performance to the whole new level.

There is a wide variety of green out there; however, Sally says it’s better for you to choose a sage or sea-foam green which can calm your mind. If you want more energizing atmosphere you can use emerald green. Avoid too bright or too dark green.

For anyone who works in a cubicle and can’t paint the walls, you can use green wallpaper or just put any green elements on your desk will do any good as well.

Add a plant or two

Plants are good for both physical and mental health. They can clear the air and freshen up your room as well as your mind. If you have a fresh mind and body, you’ll be far away from stress.

Instead, you’ll be more energized to do the job. This way, your productivity will increase significantly.

However, it’s not recommended bringing a cactus since its spines can make you uncomfortable. Also, a flower with strong scent will not be a good idea because it can make you allergic and irritated.

Use an ergonomic chair

Of all the office furniture you use, your office chair holds the most significant influence on your work performance.

Thus, choosing the right office chair is a must. Lots of professionals suggest an ergonomic chair since it is adjustable so it can be customized to your needs. You will not end up making incorrect sitting posture such as lumping or slouching which can make your body aches.

And the most important thing, an ergonomic chair will prevent you from having a back pain since it has adjustable lumbar support that will fit perfectly your curve of your back.

Use aromatherapy

Aromatherapy can make your mind and body relaxed so that you will concentrate more on your work.

Aromatherapy is also great at keeping you in a good mood so you will never feel stressful for having heavy workloads and tight deadlines. However, please avoid chemical aromatherapy since it can harm your health in a long run. It’s safer to use essential oil that delivers soft and natural smell.

Try a smell of citrus for improving memory and thinking. The scent of citrus can also make you more energized and enthusiastic.

Keep your workspace clean and neat

To keep your workspace clean and neat, you can keep a pack of antiseptics wipes on your desk.

This way, you can clean directly any visible dirt and dust accumulate on your desk, whether is coffee stain, pen mark or just a layer of dust.

Before you start working, you can wipe down your desk, chair or any other things you find necessary. If you do this daily, then your workspace will always free from any kind of dirt and stains, meaning your workspace will be comfortable all the time.
